Year 5&6 Football League Winners!

June 13, 2017

Our year 5&6 boys have become the first team to win the football Premier League Division in the history of Billesley Primary School! We won our area league from September-November which qualified us to play in the Premier League Division. Since January up until June we have been competing against some very tough schools who also won their area league so the standard was exceptionally high for school level football. The league was very tight with 3 schools that could potentially win the league if they won their last game, results went our way which meant if we beat Holy Souls in our last match we would be crowned champions!

We got off to a nervous start due to the importance of the match, after 10 minutes we began to get into our stride passing the ball around nicely and creating excellent opportunities to score. We hit the crossbar and was dominating the match when we got hit on the counter attack which lead to a  corner being taken quickly, Holy Souls capitalised and scored from making it 1-0. We lifted ourselves back up and again started dominating, we managed to get a goal back before half time which set us up for a nervy second half. Both teams came out strong with Holy Souls having the better of the play hitting the post and creating ample opportunities to take the lead. We started to fight back and dictate the play again and with a few minutes to go we scored making in 2-1, a league winning result if it stayed that way. They guys were awesome, Mr Deakin on the side was a  nervous wreck whilst the lads were cool, calm and collective. The final whistle went meaning we were CHAMPIONS for the very first time, words cannot describe how proud we are of the boys at Billesley for achievement such fantastic success. Well done guys, very well deserved!

South Birmingham Football District representatives.

June 12, 2017

For a second year running some of our amazing footballers have managed to qualify to play and represent South Birmingham district for the upcoming 2017/18 season. This year we had two boys representing the district, they had great success winning many county trophies and making it to the finals of the national championships. Unfortunately they lost to Middlesbrough in the final which would of allowed them to represent England at the New York games in the summer. This year we will have 5 boys representing both the district A and B team’s respectively. Great achievement, well done guys!

Base trip to Clent Hills.

June 7, 2017

IMG_6883

This term, as part of our mountains topic the Base took a trip to Clent Hills. The children had a choice of the simple walk up the hill or the adventure trail to get to the top. The children chose the adventure trail.

There were balance beams,

Stepping stones,

IMG_6051IMG_6064IMG_6053

Limbo bars,

IMG_6077IMG_6075IMG_6090

and tall ladders.

IMG_6895IMG_6894IMG_6893IMG_6890

Once we had walked through the adventure trail we found ourselves in a wide open space with beautiful views that everybody could appreciate.

IMG_6138IMG_6905IMG_6903

After a long walk, everybody was feeling tired and hungry so we decided it was time for lunch so we found a perfect spot where everybody could relax.

IMG_6167IMG_6910IMG_6909IMG_6908

After we had some food we decided to have a bit of fun so we did some hill rolling and exploring.

IMG_6174IMG_6146IMG_6183

We even took the time to look out into the distance and rest for a while with Henry, our PAT dog.

IMG_6160IMG_6915

We had a very long day with lots of adventures but we were very tired. It was time to take a slow walk back to the cars and drive back to school.

Year 5&6 Megafest tag rugby tournament day!

May 23, 2017

Yesterday we went to our annual Megafest tag rugby tournament day. Its a day we always look forward too as its jam packed full of fun, lots of brilliant coaching by professional coaches followed up by a jam packed afternoon full of tournaments and matches. The children loved the day, learning new skills and trying a new sport for the first time, they all worked really hard and represented our school amazingly well! We even got a mention off a professional Wasps rugby coach on how well behaved and our attitude to learning was, which is always great to here.

Maypole FC Football Tournament

May 23, 2017

We entered the Maypole FC schools football tournament this year for the very first time, the standard was exceptionally high with 11 schools entering the competition from all different regions of Birmingham. We were split into groups with only 1st and 2nd place making their way into the semi-finals. We managed to win every game in our group which qualified us for the semi-finals, we went into the semi-finals very confident and played some amazing football at times creating over 10 good opportunities to score but the ball wouldn’t hit the back of the net. After the full time whistle had blown the score was still tied at 0-0 so we went straight into penalties, we lost the toss and had to shoot second. The scores were tied at 3 scored and one miss each, they scored making it 4-3 so we needed to score! Unfortunately we missed meaning we got knocked out in the semi-finals. The guys were gutted because we played so well not losing a match all tournament, losing on penalties felt so cruel, but thats sport! Nevertheless well done guys great effort!

Year 6 Football Champions!

May 16, 2017

Yesterday our Year 6 footballers played in their last ever football tournament for our school. It was a wet and windy afternoon with a massive 11 schools braving the weather to take part which was great to see. Our boys played with their Billesley heart on their sleeves for the very last time and managed to win the whole tournament convincingly. They didn’t lose one game, conceding only one goal and scoring 14 which was fantastic. The guys were ecstatic once the results were read out and everyone here at Billesley are immensely proud. I would like to thank the boys personally for all their efforts and wish them every success in the future! Thanks guys, Mr Deakin.

This is your internet.

February 10, 2017

This week the whole school took part in internet safety day and to highlight the importance of internet safety, RB2 took part in and created a play centred around the safe and unsafe use of the internet.

IMG_4829 IMG_4827 IMG_4831

The theme of the play was performed in the style of the 90’s tv show This Is Your Life. Oliver played the host of the show who took us on a journey on Sam’s (played by Oscar) history of using the internet while Nathan played different characters from his past.

IMG_4842 IMG_4841 IMG_4835

Some of the very important issues raised in the play included online gaming and online chat sessions. It is interesting to note how some children use the internet without fully understanding the perils and dangers that could lie within. That is why days like this are a strong reminder of the positive things we can do to make children and parents aware of safer internet use at home and at school.

The Resource Base xmas cafe

February 3, 2017

Last December, the school had an enquiry day and the theme was human rights. As part of a group, the children decided we should do a Christmas cafe after the success of our summer cafe. The children wanted to give all the proceeds to charity and it was decided that the chosen charity would be Refugee Action. Oscar was very confident and phoned the charity in London to request their details.

IMG_3689

Fast forward a few weeks later and we were well into the final preparations for the Base Christmas Cafe 2016.

Hot chocolate was being mixed…

IMG_4328

Cakes, wreaths and decorations were being made…

IMG_4329 IMG_4335 IMG_4317

And we were ready for business!

IMG_4348

Everybody had a wonderful time and all of our visitors were extremely impressed with all the hard work and effort put in by all of the children.

IMG_4356 IMG_4346 IMG_4375 IMG_4377 IMG_4391

Once the cafe was finished we counted up all the money and managed to raise a total of £103.78. The children were really pleased that all their hard work paid and off and were able to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

Last week the school received a letter from refugee action.

So a big thank you to all the children in the base because without their work we wouldn’t have had such an amazing event and thank you to all the mainstream children and staff who showed up and donated.

The day the firemen came to visit.

January 20, 2017

This week the West Midlands Fire Service came to the school to teach the children all about fire safety.

IMG_4608 IMG_4605

The base children were all very excited and answered some very interesting questions and made some excellent comments about fire safety, what the firemen do and how important their role is in society. They were even more excited once the sirens started blaring and really felt like they were part of what was an important demonstration.

Year 5&6 Sportshall Athletics Competition.

January 17, 2017

Following on from our success earlier in the day our year 5&6 athletes tried to replicate our year 3&4 athletes by competing in their own competition. Again they had to compete in track and field events with the team consisting of 9 boys and 9 girls. There were 8 teams that took part  on the day with the winning school going onto represent South Birmingham at the school games finals in February. We competed brilliantly and again our attitudes and behaviour was fantastic, always encouraging each other and congratulating the other teams once the race/event was over which was nice to see. We finished in 4th place overall just missing out on a medal spot by 4 points which the children were massively disappointed by.  Nevertheless is was a great competition and all involved had lots of fun! IMG_3533 IMG_3536 IMG_3540 IMG_3542 IMG_3544 IMG_3545 IMG_3546
